MMD Group Advances Sustainability Journey with Go Climate Positive Partnership
28 August 2025

MMD Group, a global leader in mineral processing equipment, has taken significant steps on its journey towards net zero, working with carbon management specialists Go Climate Positive (GCP) to measure, reduce and responsibly manage its environmental impact.
Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Laxey, Isle of Man, MMD Group is a global manufacturer of innovative mineral processing solutions, with operations in over 60 countries. Spanning five manufacturing plants, 19 offices, and nearly 600 employees worldwide. Its product range includes the Mineral Sizer™, In-Pit Sizing and Conveying (IPSC) systems, Apron Plate Feeders, Bulk Ore Sorting, and the SurgeLoader™. MMD equipment is widely used in mining, quarrying, recycling, and demolition, improving productivity, safety, and sustainability across industries.
Building a Clear Pathway to Net Zero
In early 2023, MMD partnered with GCP through its Road to Net Zero programme. The first step was a comprehensive global carbon audit, establishing a baseline and identifying priority areas for emissions reduction.
Since then, MMD has implemented a range of measures, including:
- Installing solar panels at its Alfreton facility to reduce reliance on grid power.
- Transitioning to LED lighting and promoting paperless operations across offices.
- Establishing Green Committees at each site to ensure sustainability is embedded at a local level.
“Working with Go Climate Positive has given us the tools, structure, and confidence to accelerate our sustainability journey,” said Chris Pearson, Group Business Development Director at MMD Group. “Sustainability has moved beyond compliance, it is now a strategic imperative that shapes our long-term future.”
MMD’s approach balances emissions reduction with the selective use of carbon credits, ensuring that offsets complement, rather than replace, genuine operational improvements.
Inspiring the Next Generation at STEMFest
Earlier this year, MMD attended STEMFest in the Isle of Man, engaging with young people to highlight the vital role mining and mineral processing play in everyday life. The company believes it is important to educate children about where items come from, linking raw materials to the products they use daily. By showcasing the industry’s role in the global supply chain, MMD also emphasised how mining can be connected to sustainability, an area not often associated with the sector.
Through interactive sessions and hands-on learning, MMD encouraged students to think differently about mining, seeing it not just as resource extraction, but as a field driving innovation in recycling, clean energy, and responsible resource management. The initiative reflects MMD’s commitment to inspiring future generations while reinforcing the importance of sustainability in all aspects of industry.
Commitment to Global Standards and ISO Certification
As part of its long-term strategy, MMD Group is also pursuing internationally recognised ISO certifications across the countries in which it operates. These include ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 9001 (Quality Management), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety). By aligning with these global standards, MMD is ensuring consistency, accountability, and measurable progress in its sustainability and governance practices.
“ISO accreditation is a critical step for us,” Pearson explained. “It reinforces our commitment to operating responsibly worldwide and provides assurance to our customers, partners, and employees that sustainability and safety are at the core of everything we do.”
Community Engagement and ESG Commitment
Alongside its operational changes, MMD is committed to supporting local and international communities. On the Isle of Man, the company contributes to the local community by taking part in activities such as tree planting. Globally, MMD supports initiatives such as the Halo Trust, a humanitarian organisation dedicated to landmine clearance, demonstrating its commitment to wider ESG objectives.
Looking Ahead
The company is now driving innovation in clean technologies like fossil-free steel, pushing ahead with ongoing tech development, and encouraging sustainability across its people, suppliers, and customers. As awareness grows, so do the reputational benefits.
“Our journey has shown us that the earlier businesses act, the greater the long-term impact,” added Pearson. “We are proud to play our part in creating a more sustainable future for the industries and communities we serve.”
