Engineering & Manufacturing Strategy

Business Isle of Man, part of the Department for Enterprise, acknowledges the externally proposed Engineering & Manufacturing Strategy. We are delighted to see the completion of the Strategic Review and would like to thank Gemserv and IfM Engage (the consultants) for delivering a comprehensive proposal. We would also like to thank participating businesses who opened their doors and other stakeholders that contributed valuably to the Strategic Review over the last year or so.

Deliverables that complete the external Strategic Review include the Phase 1 Report, published in June 2024 which provided the evidence base for the Phase 2 Proposed Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing Strategy (2025-2035). In-depth research was undertaken with multiple businesses in order to support both reports and several workshops with stakeholders at various stages were conducted.

Industry, Business Isle of Man and other areas of Government will now begin to review the strategic initiatives proposed and this will inform the final strategy, implementation plan and associated funding request.

In conjunction with the Strategic Review, the Department for Enterprise has been assessing its Enterprise Support Schemes and what improvements can be made to support existing businesses further. The Agency is working on presenting a more productivity-driven approach to financial assistance to encourage sustainable, profitable businesses as opposed to solely looking at exchequer benefit derived from employee headcount.

As of the 1st April 2025, the Financial Assistance Scheme can offer further research and development (R&D) grant funding linked to a range of criteria. More information on this including qualifying expenditure, criteria and general eligibility criteria can be found in the Scheme Guidelines, section 6.9.
